Very, very random.
I have been very busy at work. It used to be that I had distinct busy seasons, every 6 months before and after an audit. This year, however, I haven’t slowed down for a minute, and I feel very overwhelmed when I sit down and think of everything I need to accomplish…so I try not to do that. I could probably work 50 hours a week, and still never catch up, so lately I’m just sticking to no more than 45 hours a week.
Last year my company participated in a campaign to raise money for United Way. I was so enthusiastic last year, that I was asked to coordinate the campaign this year. My company was asked by United Way to be a “pacesetter”, which means we run our campaign early and aim for at least a 20% increase over the amount raised last year. We ended our campaign last week, with a 50% increase on the amount raised last year! Yipee! I was also asked to work as a “loaned executive” for United Way. That means that in addition to running my company’s campaign, I go to other local companies to help their coordinators campaign. I am supposed to go to Loaned Executive training next week, but my boss is cringing at the idea of me leaving the plant for two days, because like I said…work has been hectic. Oh, it’s nice to feel needed, but I really really really really want to continue my work with United Way. For now, my company is trying to work with me so that I can continue volunteering for United Way, but it just means that I probably won’t have much of a social life for the next few weeks. Ah, free time…who needs it?! I think the United Way is a really neat organization, and I could go on and on and on, but I won’t. Email me if you really want to know more about it.
Benjy got a new job! He just started his fourth week at TSAV, Technical Services Audio Visual. For the first three weeks, he worked on a team that was installing SMART board systems in all the Clarke county schools. With the start of school quickly approaching, Benjy has been working a lot of overtime. He really likes the job though. He works with a few fellas he knows from Radford, his hometown. He gets to work with his hands, but also gets to be in the air conditioning. And management seems pretty cool, buying beers for the guys after a long day of work.
All the overtime at our jobs, in combination with the extreme heat (105 degrees) and humidity in Georgia, leaves us feeling pretty beat. We might manage a chore or two around the house before we eat dinner and then crash.
In more exciting news (for me at least) I got a new camera and it is so cool! Let me show you just how cool it is.
A regular ol’ photograph of our mailbox taken on the camera’s “Auto” function:

A photograph taken on the “Color Accent” function: (you tell the camera what color to accent in an otherwise black and )white photograph)

A photograph taken on the “Color Swap” function: (you can replace one color with another. in this case i told the camera to change all orange to green)

In another example of the “color swap” function, I’ve turned my green beans to red:

Hee hee!! So cool! I’m really looking forward to playing with this new toy. Also, I tried the video function to film Oz, being his adorable doggie self.
