my hero

Lots of ice, not so much snow here in Saint Louis. The weather came barrelling in Thursday afternoon. Getting home was a challenge, even for me just coming 18 blocks. I decided it was too icy to walk, so I waited for a bus. I stayed on the bus 45 minutes, but traffic was so hellatious, I got off the bus and walked the rest of the way. Mind you, this is for a 10 minute bus ride in normal conditions. I was so happy to get home, and anticipated a nice warm evening of watching Scrubs reruns - and the season premiere too! But no, we had our usual problem with water flowing in under the balcony door - happens every time there's a big storm from the north. Only this time, the ice had built up on the balcony so that the water was just flowing right in - Lake Saint Charles right here. The balcony ice was so thick that the door wouldn't open. What to do? My resourceful husband removed the ice-covered screen on the window next to the balcony door, climbed out that window in the sleet storm, and chipped away the ice by the balcony door, thereby averting further water disaster.
